The short version
Textfold never stores or sends what you type. It has no analytics, no tracking and no account. It connects to the internet for exactly two things: checking for updates, and — if you buy Pro — activating and now and then verifying your license.
What you type
To spot abbreviations, Textfold reads your keystrokes through the macOS Accessibility permission. It keeps only the last few characters (at most 64) in memory, clears them whenever you click, switch apps or move the caret, and never writes them to disk or sends them anywhere. When macOS secure input is on — in password fields, for example — Textfold sees nothing and pauses.
To insert a snippet, Textfold briefly places it on the clipboard, pastes it, and then restores what was on your clipboard before. It marks that temporary content so clipboard-history apps can skip it.
Your snippets and settings
Snippets are plain text files in a folder on your Mac that you choose. Textfold doesn't upload them. If you put that folder in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or a git repository, that service's own privacy policy applies to the files. Settings, including your license details, are stored in Textfold's preferences on your Mac.
What goes over the network
| When | Sent to | What |
|---|---|---|
| Checking for updates (about once a day, or when you ask) | textfold.app; downloads come from GitHub | A normal web request for the update feed, which includes your IP address and Textfold's version in the user agent. No system profile is sent. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings → Updates. |
| Activating Pro | Dodo Payments (our merchant of record) | Your license key and a label for this Mac made of its name and macOS version (for example “Sam's MacBook Air · Version 15.1”), so you can tell your activations apart. |
| Verifying the license (about once a week) | Dodo Payments | Your license key and the activation's ID. |
| Removing the license from a Mac | Dodo Payments | Your license key and the activation's ID, so the activation can be used elsewhere. |
Nothing else. The free plan sends no license requests at all.
Buying Textfold
Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record: it processes your payment, handles tax and sends your receipt and license key. Dodo collects what it needs for that — such as your name, email address, billing country and payment details — under its own privacy policy. We receive your name, email address and order details so we can help with your license and refunds. We don't see your card number.
This website
textfold.app has no analytics, no advertising and no cookies. It is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to run and protect the service.
Support emails and diagnostics
If you email us, we use what you send only to help you, and keep it only as long as needed. The Diagnostics report in the app is never sent automatically; you copy it and choose whether to include it. It contains your settings, snippet counts and the names of snippets it matched — not snippet contents or your typing.
Your choices
You can use Textfold without ever going online by turning off automatic update checks and staying on the free plan. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, email hello@textfold.app. Deleting Textfold and its snippets folder removes everything it stored on your Mac.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. A change that sends more data than listed above would be announced in the release notes first.
